XTC, Prince, Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley, They Might Be Giants, Geggy Tah, The The, 80s pop (the really nasty stuff like Wham and all those English New Wave bands), Randy Newman, Taj Mahal, Paul Simon, Big Band music, Jonah Matranga
Sounds Like
They Might Be Giants, Postal Service, Flaming Lips, Beck, Elliot Smith--send me a comment and tell me! I'd love to know!
When was the last time you cried? I don't mean in a movie theater. When was the last time you danced a little jig? When was the last time you couldn't get to sleep because you were too excited about something? When was the last time you talked all night about nothing and everything? When was the last time you told someone you loved them because you really felt like you just couldn't keep it inside any longer? I'm tired of hiding behind a veil of words, aren't you? I want to get to the creamy center, and stay there. I know I'm an idiot. That's OK. You want to stay after school with me? Listen: I wrote these songs for you.
scarth Locke (now on itunes!)'s Friend Space (Top 8)
Bah-K, I was just wondering when you're gonna get it together with the P.R.K.B. (the punk rock kirtan band), which is gonna be really popular as soon as someone steals my idea. Hopefully someone will. I'm too busy reading Patanjali right now! Mwah!-moi
Hey man I saw that you just missed that Henry deal. I really thought you had it in the bag. Here's that audio visual project I was talking about with you. Enjoy
My series "The Open Mic Documentary " has been nominated for a Cable TV Award as the "Best Arts Coverage: Series"!!! But being nominated for an Award is second only to WINNING the Award! So I'm asking for your vote. Go to my site www. theopenmic. net and follow the link or go directly here to get the info. www. theopenmic. net/vote. php I'd appreciate the vote. If you would care to spread the word I'd also appreciate that. Voting ends Friday September 5.
Na, the "robo-drummer" is fine, for what it is the song is fine. Artists spend big bucks for producers for a reason, artists are to close to their art, its good & simple, if you let a producer do their version, it'll change with them anyway. The FULL drum delay is what gives it a new wave sound. But it would be gone in a studio with a producer. New wave is dead, but disco lives on! (lol). P.S. You should try shimmering the 9th and flattening the 5th on this song. But don't try it at home, many have died. hahahaha, you crack me up...
that's really cool that you made it to the 'finals' though. do you know who won? and more importantly, do you want them to disappear? just say the word and i can take care of that, if you know what i mean. also, yeah...i'm down to play a show. what do you have in mind?
Uh, YEAH! I'd always love to have drums in my tracks. I just don't have one convenient. :o/ If I would have been smart and recorded it to a click I would have just gotten someone to add some programming to it. :o( I HATE recording to click though. AHHHH!!! And if you're playing live with a drummer you don't even have to worry about it...well as long as they're really damn good.
Glad you like it though. It's just a rough demo recording I bounced down on my ZOOM.
yes, it's like a celestial event when our orbits are in alignment ;-) Nice to see you here...I hope all is well. I hope to hear you perform your exquisitely quirky tunes again soon. Ciao
I'm glad you're doing well and I know that this contest has only helped you. :o) I'm still so very excited for you. One of these days I'll get there. I just need to have more time to really sit down with my songs and spend tons of time recording them. I really only have demo stuff right now. I think I'd actually be ashamed to sell it. LOL! I'm sure you were there at one point in your life. After messing with stuff and hearing all of the different levels of quality that can come from a recording makes me more critical of my own recordings and work and I only want to do better. It looks like it will probably be next year before I release an album. It's just the way things are working out. I want my stuff to sound like high production shit! You know what I mean. I don't want it to be grungy and muddled sounding. That's how I feel about it now. Still, let me know if you're ever interested in collaborating. :o)
darn you didn't win. How did that happen... ok awnser is easy: not enough votes.
Utrecht is a art supply store... funny cause this is a city with more then average artsy folk... That's what you get with several colleges and thousands of students living here.
LOL. I have one of those too, but I didn't work with her. I met her here on myspace and I threw it down in one take--I still haven't gone back to it. I need to do it proper justice. Name songs can be weird, but also popular. : )
Wow, She sounds like quite an interesting lady! Definitely get your band playing that tune... Well, for what it's worth, I thought you had the most interesting POV of the top 5. It was catchy and upbeat, which actually makes more sense for a movie like H.P.
Hey, just stopping by..really like that tune Jaime. I guess the Henry Poole people are keeping everyone in suspense? And don't worry..bribery is always okay!
I sowwy hun. Well, I hope this got you some exposure. I'm very excited for you. I really think yours fit the movie. Now i just have no desire to see the movie at all! LOL! I was excited about it but this actually, kind of, turned me off. Mainly because I think the other songs were boring. Hmmmm....oh well. Keep in touch. I'd love to collaborate, via internet, sometime. I think we'd make an interesting musical duo.
